Malo Arthur Gusto was born on 19 May 2003, in Decines-Charpieu, a commune near Lyon, France. He spent most of his life in Villefontaine, Isere, approximately 30 kilometers from Lyon.
Malo Gusto is from a diverse family background. His father, Philippe Gusto, has roots in Martinique, a Caribbean Island although he was born in Germany. He works for the SNCF, France’s national railway company. His mother is French, though retired now, she once served as a director for an assosciation dedicated to assisting people with disabilities and elderly people.
As a child, Gusto shared a close bond with his parents. His father played the major role in his athletic development, desiring him to pursue a career in the sports he favored, Rugby. Malo Gusto first played at the AVSF where he progressed to Bourgion-Jallieu before he eventually joined the Lyon Academy as an under-14 which coincidentally was the year Lyon moved to the Stade des Lumieres located in his hometown.
Having established himself in the Youth League and National 2 through his performance with the reserves, Gusto signed his first professional contract with Lyon in December 2020 and made his professional debut for Lyon on 24th January 2021 coming on to replace Bruno Guimaraes in the 90th minute of 5-0 ligue 1 win against Saint Etienne. Gusto went on to sign a new contract with Lyon in June which tied him down to the club until 2024.
He soon made history on August 7 as the youngest defender to start a Ligue 1 game for OL since Samuel Umtiti after he started his first game in the Lyon opening match against Brest.
On 29 January 2023, Chelsea signed Malo Gusto for a deal worth about €35m. He was loaned back to Lyon until the completion of the 2022-2023. His debut for Chelsea came in August in a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in the premier league.

International Career
A citizen of France by birth Gusto has been a youth international for France. He started as a midfielder for the U-16 before playing as a fullback for the U-17 and the U18.
